What is UCR?

The Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) is a yearly registration required by federal law for most companies that move goods or passengers across state lines. It is run by the UCR Plan together with 41 participating states, and it is checked during roadside inspections.

UCR is renewed every year. Registration for the next year opens on October 1, and you must be registered before January 1. If you're stopped without a current UCR, you can be fined.

Who needs UCR?

In general, UCR applies to businesses with an active USDOT number that operate in interstate commerce, including:

Owner-operators leased onto another carrier are usually covered by that carrier's UCR. Not sure? Call us and we'll check with you.

Frequently asked questions

When is UCR due?

Registration for the next year opens on October 1, and you must be registered before January 1. For 2027, the deadline is December 31, 2026.

Is the price per truck?

No. UCR is one flat price for your whole fleet, based on the bracket your vehicle count falls into. For example, a company with 3, 4, or 5 vehicles pays the same 2027 price: $232.

How much does it cost?

One all-in price for 2027 that includes the UCR registration and our filing service: $85 (0–2 vehicles), $232 (3–5), $438 (6–20), $1,373 (21–100), or $6,048 (101–1,000). Fleets over 1,000 vehicles, please call us.

I'm a broker with no trucks. What do I pay?

Brokers, freight forwarders, and leasing companies with no trucks pay the smallest bracket (0–2 vehicles). If you also operate trucks as a carrier, you pay based on your vehicle count.

How fast will my UCR be filed?

Most orders placed on business days are filed the same day. We email your confirmation as soon as it's done. Orders placed in the evening, on weekends, or on holidays are filed the next business day.

Can I file for a past year?

Yes. If you missed 2026, choose 2026 when you order. Filing a missed year as soon as possible helps you avoid fines at roadside inspections.
